Project Details

This report was prepared by students in the University of Georgia’s Interdisciplinary Environmental Law Practicum course, led by Laurie Fowler, J.D, L.L.M. It highlights possible impacts to the social, economic, and natural landscape of Hancock County as a result of a proposed aggregate gravel quarry. The proposed quarry would be owned and operated by Mayfield Natural Resources, LLC., and located next to the Ogeechee River, directly south of Mayfield and about 4 miles north (upstream) of Jewell.

The report was admitted as evidence in a hearing against Mayfield Natural Resources, LLC. The residents of Handcock county won their case against the quarry, protecting watershed environmental quality for generations to come.
