Local Solutions to Global Problems

I am a program and policy manager focusing on community-based initiatives for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. I believe that local-level initiatives are the long-term future of effective and equitable progress on climate action, and I am excited to continue growing my capacity to lead collaborative climate efforts.

I developed a focus on community-based climate solutions through professional experiences at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, the River Basin Center, and Clean Wisconsin, organizations that engage with local environmental policy and where I worked as a policy and legal analyst. My interest in community programming and policy was furthered by my research on resilience indicators and policies in Monteverde, Costa Rica and Glynn County, Georgia.

I specialize in the use of spatial data for understanding and communicating the interactions between people and their environment. I have found that maps can demonstrate complex concepts to a range of stakeholders, especially those for whom English is not a first language. In my work as a Recycling Information and Data Manager at Can I Recycle This, I leverage spatial recycling datasets to help consumers properly dispose of products and packaging at end-of-life. And for my Master's thesis in Environmental Economics I created a citizen-science application and neighborhood mapping portal that put the power of data on climate injustices into the hands of a marginalized community. Looking ahead, I will continue to work with communities on issues of climate justice, and explore new ways to create inclusive conversations around building resilience and managing environmental impacts.

Just for Fun

I made my first email address in 4th grade and picked this: grace4nature. It was a fortuitous moment, because my involvement with conservation and environmental activism has only grown since then, as has my love for the great outdoors.

I am a native of Madison, WI and passionate about my home state. Don't get me started talking about Wisconsin State Parks, cheese, or my favorite winter sports because I'll probably never stop. In my free time I love riding and racing bicycles and exploring the wilderness with my dog Archie. One of by best memories from my undergraduate degree was being part of the winning team in the 2019 Club Sports Cyclocross National Championship.  And in 2022, after five years of dating, I married the love of my life at the Botanical Gardens in Athens, GA. Nature runs through pretty much everything that I love to do, which makes me extra determined to protect our planet for current and future generations.

In the Past

As an impassioned undergraduate at The University of Georgia, I gave a speech on behalf of the UGA Chapter of the Citizen's Climate Lobby, advocating for the use of a carbon tax to motivate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. While I have turned my attention to community-based solutions to our global climate crisis, I still engage in political advocacy work by researching and writing legislative scorecards for environmental issues. These are published by my current employer, CIRT Inc. on their company blog.
